Overview of Facebook Timeline

The new Timeline feature that Facebook are rolling out to replace the Wall has many improvements on its predecessor, but how many of these new features will be widely used and how much of a new privacy issue does it open up for existing users.

As it stands the wall is more or less a scrolling page that shows any Facebook activity with newest events being shown first. The Timeline uses a similar mythology but allows you to edit your Timeline to show Events as and when they occurred. For example insert information about when you moved home, passed your driving test or anything else you want to show.

One of the neat features is you are able to fill in details of things that happened to you before you where a Facebook member. In fact you can update details about things that happened before Facebook, or the Internet for that matter came along.

One big question is why would someone want all their personal information out there. We already feed Facebook with so much personal information about our day to day lives, do we really need to give them any more?

I think the Timeline is a good feature, but I don't think it should be used for anything more than very general information. If you want people to know your lives story, write an autobiography.

Mack.
